Описание
Peasant figure of the Gardner Porcelain Factory; Verbilki, Russia, 1870s-80s. Glazed porcelain. With marks on the base. Measurements: 11.5 x 8 x 11 cm. Gardner was one of the great porcelain manufactures of 19th century Russia. Founded in 1766 by banker Francis Gradner with the help of an unknown connoisseur of the secret of porcelain, something very rare in Europe at the time, it was located in the town of Verbilki, in the Moscow province. Already in its early days, even in the 18th century, the Gardner factory will compete with the Imperial Porcelain Factory both in quality and in its artistic level. In the next century, when new private manufactures begin to appear in the country, they will follow Gardner's standards. Its production was characterized, from its beginnings, by well-organized manufacturing, high-quality materials, the craftsmanship of its craftsmen and the high level of artists who worked for the factory. Furthermore, from the first third of the 19th century, Gardner's pieces will include a profuse work of gilding, with enamels that included gold. By then, manufacturing already numbered among its customers the Russian royal family and important members of the aristocracy. After significant growth throughout the 19th century, during the Soviet period the factory was nationalized and renamed the Dmitrov Porcelain Factory, maintaining its high quality standards. In fact, in this new stage, he will obtain important international recognitions such as the gold medal of the International Exhibition of Arts and Techniques of Modern Life held in Paris in 1937, or the silver medal at the Brussels Exhibition of 1958. After the fall of the Communist regime, the factory retaken the name of Gardner.
