Ángel Espinosa Herrera was born in Calatayud (Zaragoza) in 1889, although from Santander parents. His childhood was spent in the Cantabrian capital and he had great skills not only for painting and poetry, but also for mathematics.

As a painter and poet, he participated in the cultural emergence of Santander in the second and third decades of the 20th century, with bohemian customs that were redirected thanks to his marriage. From 1925 he spent several years in America, including those of the civil war, standing out in portrait painting.

As a poet he published several books, such as ?Lantern? (1921), where he expresses a tormented and restless spirit, and ?To reach the light? (1950).
