Sculpture of the PORCELANA LOMONOSOV FACTORY; Saint Petersburg, 1937. Glazed and gilded porcelain. With marks on the base. Measurements: 18 x 21.5 x 11.5 cm. Sculpture made in porcelain in a round bundle, covered with a colorless glaze and adorned with gold details. It represents a wise man sitting on a couch, writing and surrounded by books. The piece includes an inkwell, the cover of which is a small stack of books that, once placed, is perfectly integrated into the sculpture. The Imperial Porcelain Manufactory, founded in Saint Petersburg in 1744 by Dimitri Ivanovich Vinogradov and supported by the Romanov czars from the time of the Empress Elizabeth, manufactured, from its beginnings, a hard-paste ceramic very close to oriental porcelain, of high quality, and From the second quarter of the 19th century it will begin to manufacture authentic porcelain, with kaolin imported from Limoges. It was a manufacturing closely linked to the court, although it will begin to expand its production in the 19th century and, by the Art Nouveau era, it had already become one of the main factories in Europe. After the October Revolution it was nationalized (1917), under the new name of State Porcelain Factory, although it would be renamed in 1925 with the name of the founder of the Russian Academy of Science, renamed Lomonosov Porcelain Factory.
